Do you know pufferfish might soon be associated with sustainable sourcing?
The United Nations Development Programme, through its 2023 Ocean Innovation Challenge, has just rewarded a Turkish company willing to develop leather products from the skins of this species, known for being toxic-to-eat and invasive of Eastern Mediterranean seas.
The objective is twofold: providing an alternative to the controversial exotic leather industry and protecting marine ecosystems by limiting pufferfish negative impacts.
